Swimming Pool Maintenance

So, you’ve called in the phoenix pool builders of your choice, and now have the swimming pool you always dreamed of. That’s wonderful, but a common mistake made by many people is that they think that is the end of the process. Swimming pool maintenance is as important as having it built properly in the first place, but is one of the first things people let slide, so here are some simple maintenance tips to ensure that swimming pool stays every bit as idyllic as it was when first built.

Checking your pool’s chemistry often is a wise move. Twice a week in summer and once in winter is the advisable rate, and while that may seem a lot, ultimately it will enable you to make only minor adjustments to the chemistry of the pool rather than the massive adjustments that will be necessary if you don’t check it and keep on top of it for months on end.

Don’t allow the PH to rise over about 8. At even just 8.5, the effectiveness of the chlorine in your pool water is reduced to just ten percent. Likewise, alkalinity needs to be kept somewhere between eighty to a hundred and forty PPM, otherwise water balance is affected and the sanitizer is unlikely to be able to perform to the degree that it should. Check calcium hardness regularly also (every month preferably) for the same reason.

Chlorine generator cells need to be cleaned on a regular basis, otherwise they will become corroded or calcified and this will result in very little chlorine actually being produced in your pool.

At the same time, you may need to scale back on your backwashing of your sand or DE filters. Too much backwashing of these filters is actually wasting water and failing to allow the filter to reach its full cleaning capabilities. Backwashing of filters is only considered necessary when their pressure gauges rises to 8-10 PSI. On the other hand, the skimmer basket or the hair and lint pot located in the pool pump does require regular cleaning, as any kind of blockage will result in small flow and poor water circulation in the pool, which is a very bad idea. Circulation is very important in helping to keep a pool as low maintenance as possible, and on that note it is also important to run the pump for around an hour per every ten degrees of temperature.

Following these simple tips will result in a pool much easier to maintain than if you don’t.
